Comment on the article “The trouble with Flanders” (The Economist - Jan 27th 2011 )

The problem is not Flanders but Belgium.
All we ask as Flemish citizens is a bit of respect for our language and good governance that ensures our future. However, the Walloons wants to keep the socialist welfare state without responsibility and empowerment. The Socialist Party of Mr. Di Rupo wants to keep the non-activating (Walloon) welfare state. They will do this, like in the past, with Flemish money. Walloons come live in Flanders and wishes unabashedly that they can use the France language anytime, anywhere. They require official documents, against all language laws, in French as they come live in Flanders. On the other hand, for instance, in Brussels hospitals (Brussels is an official two language city) you invariably served in French.
Only when the Walloons shall understand that the welfare state must be reformed and that the language laws must be respected, Belgium will continue to exist. The most of the Flemish people will keep Belgium, but not at any price.
And to the editor of this article: follow once the Flemish press, it will broaden your view on the problem “Belgium”.
And yes, I hope that good governance and respect for cultures and languages matter to Europe.
